hot - cold reversed
posted on November 02, 2009 08:17:33 pm
Example: When you face a sink the hot should be on the left side and the cold on the right. Consider a bathtub that has the fixtures mounted on the outer edge. In this configuration the fixtures are accessible from sitting in the tub or standing outside of it. Which position do you adopt for determining which is the right or the left? From within the tub or from the outside?

Bond screw

Shouldn't there be a bond screw in this service panel on one side or the other?Attachment 14747 (http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/attachments/electrical-systems-home-inspection-commercial-inspection/14747-bond-screw-dsc06231.jpg) Attachment 14748 (http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/attachments/electrical-systems-home-inspection-commercial-inspection/14748-bond-screw-dsc06234.jpg)

appliance garage outlet
posted on November 02, 2009 06:32:48 am
The permit inspector for a kitchen renovation I'm involved did not approve the 110 V duplex outlet inside the appliance garage. He claims that the outlet must be visible with the appliance garage door closed. Is this really a code requirement?

Is stove pipe universal?
posted on November 01, 2009 08:15:17 pm
I have a gas fireplace in my sunroom right now, maybe in a year or 2 I was considering switching it to a wood burning stove, will the existing flue work with a wood or pellet burning stove?

Burners immediately below A coil?
posted on November 01, 2009 04:56:17 pm
I've not before seen GFAF installed with the burners immediately below the AC coil, and can't find the Mfgs' installation instructions on line... for starters seems to me this puts a LOT of heat on the pan/coil. Does anyone know if this installaton is correct?

Electrical Panel
posted on November 01, 2009 09:36:19 am
The electrical panel has a 200 amp main disconnect panel outside so shouldn’t the grounds and neutrals be separated in basement panel? Is the service panel in the house technically considered a sub panel? Also is the bend radius in the 4/0 wire okay? I also thought the panel was somewhat small for 200 amps. Thanks in advance for any help John

Grounding a Satellite System
posted on October 31, 2009 08:05:54 pm
I have a satellite pole buried and cemented 3 feet in the ground. I don't think this is deep enough to get a good ground. I have read that the house should share a common ground. So do to this I need to run a ground wire about 75 feet to the service box. I have two 18" satellite dishes on the pole, each have two LNB's. I purchased a grounding block that will ground 4 LNB's. Questions: From the ground at the service box to the satellite pole is around 75 feet. Is #6 solid copper wire ideal for this or is it a bit of an overkill. Can I use #8 or #10? Also, there will be at least a half dozen bends in the ground wire from point to point. Does this matter as this is not the ground coming from the service box? Finally, is it ok to secure the ground wire to a wooden floor joist or does this need to be outside the house? One last thing...Rather than run a wire 75 feet would it be a better idea to pound a 10 foot rod into the ground next to the satellite dish pole? I want to do this grounding project properly and am open to any suggestions and comments. Thanks in advance!

Losing my hear over the NEC 2008 code
posted on October 31, 2009 01:52:35 pm
Using the New NEC 2008 code book. Can anyone tell me if a receptacle underneath the sink, now needs to be GFCI protect, and tamper-resistance. This receptacle could be use for a disposal or dishwasher. Can anyone tell me is a receceptacle in a kitchen cabinet, above the Mico-Wave, needs to be GFCI, and tamper-resistance. Can anyone tell me is a receptacle, within 6 Ft. of the kitchen sink, behind the refrigerator, needs to be GFCI needs tamper-resistance. Now correct me if I am wrong, the NEC 2008 doesn't require kitchen circuits to be AFCI. What about the island or peninsula. Does the breakfast room, adjacent to the kitchen area, require AFCI on there duplex receptacle's. quote: "education never stops until you drop dead"
