I don't see a problem with it. BUT.............!

My concern would be with the condition of the innards of the fireplace. What is the condition of the FP, damper, throat, smoke shelf, the flue (tiles) pipe, etc. Inserts can cause a great deal of damage to a masonry FP. At a minimum I would call for NFPA 211 14.3 Level II Inspection.
