Charlie,

That furnace looks like it was made for upright or side mount thus the two opening in the cabinet.

I don't think there is a covering made for that opening.

The only sure way to tell would be to read the install instructions.

I would report the flex, gap,CO readings call for a Licensed HVAC and let it go.
