Code does not address common sense or stupidity items - if the code did ... we would all need a tractor trailer rig to drive just to carry the code book.
To my knowledge
'wood rots when it gets wet and stays wet for long periods of time' (like happens in those pans, as evidenced by the rust), and placing wood where it will rot out is a 'stupid thing' not covered by code.
