The electricity doesn't know what color the wire is. The electrician does. Hence, the use of colored tape is a courtesy to the next guy. There should be a code violation for lack therof.

I would agree since the NFPA NEC 70 is expressly compiled for safety reasons. The major electrical industry manufacturers have taken over with deep pocket profits, so there is a rare commodity of codes being generated for an installers health in mind. A good proposal might help generate a code acceptance for the 2014 issue. rbj
