View Full Version : ALUMINUM BRANCH WIRES RETURN

HEY ALL
1967 house in trendy boulder co today. there was aluminum branch wires on seven breakers.owner chief contractor on house repairs was there, don't you just love that???

well he replaced all the outlets with COALUM alledged accepted outlets and claimed that was accepted by consumer group and of course HOME DEPOT ORANGE BIBED GURU and all the electric Gods--yadda yadda yadda. closed my ears and on i went.--pictures attached

then i came upon his wood burning stove in basement. exhaust flue is in garage and unprotected as i see. wondering about this vent and it's access thru drywall in garage and up to chimney stack

any help on both issues appreciated

CO/ALR is supposed to be the approved method of dealing with aluminum wiring. However, there are enough problems with the older aluminum branch circuit wiring that I would be unwilling to accept the liability and would defer to an electrical contractor. I have not heard of CO/ALUM.

Boy, it's a good thing that isn't wood stacked up against that chimney flue pipe. :cool:

When ever I find aluminum I suggest they have the entire system checked out. As far as that goes I only write up the basic faults with the system and tell so because I am deferring the entire system to an electrician. Actually I like aluminum because it makes my job much easier. You cannot get anymore direct than to state an electrician should evaluate and or repair all concerns he finds with the system including eliminating the aluminum altogether as the electrician feels best for their safety.

You have expressed your concerns and deferred the concerns for further evaluation.
