It won't last long.
As soon as those PT 4x4 posts start to twist, everything is going to pull loose and it is going to collapse like a house of cards.
Wonder if he seriously never thought someone might just jump the fence. He evidently thought this would keep someone from entering his driveway and possibly taking off with something.
Maybe he just wants to feel like Batman driving madly out of the batcave.:D

I suspect he just got tired of stopping, getting out of the car, opening the gate, getting back in the car, driving through, stopping, getting back out, closing the gate, getting back in, then driving up to the house ... I know I would get tired of it, heck, I got tired of it just typing it once. :)
Now, he pulls in, clicks the remote, drives in, clicks the remote again, no problem ... so he thought.

I was going to ask "How many code violations and things do you see wrong with it?", then decided it was easier to count the "things NOT wrong with it".
Things NOT wrong with it: -0-

Love it! He used pressure-treated wood for the posts, vertical stabilization - stuff dries quick when wet. He needs to tack that cable every 4 1/2 feet though - violation. The header over the door may be a hair too small - sagging. And it needs an adjustment at the bottom. Lacks Christmas lights too.
Looks like something my Boy Scouts do at camp as the shell for the base for the signal tower... their towers have no doors though.

Maybe he's extending his garage and wanted to pre-position the garage door in order to have it placed prcisely. He'll just build up to it. :D

This is a very popular structure in Washington, DC. Usually they put a roof over it and some type of covering on the sides.

From that link:
when performing a “footer inspection”.
From the IRC: "R109.1.1 Foundation inspection."
They lost me when they, in quotes as though quoting the code, stated "footer inspection".
From what those drawings show, that does not meet code either.

OK . . . I'm thinking someone has money and time to burn. I mean, wouldn't an automatic gate be easier, less expensive . . . more practical??? To each their own, I guess.

Ok, let's try this again, since my first attempt at this softball (your minds are really in the gutter) didn't pan out.
I didn't know so many Asians supported Obama!
Come on! I hardly have any work! I have to do something!

First big wind storm and he'll have a bunch of firewood. Besides, wouldn't it of been better and maybe cheaper to install an electric gate motor & track? I'm sure his neighbors would probably chip in. Best one I've seen in awhile, although I did see someone install a sump pump pit right in front of the garage entry door in a basement. This one is priceless.
