Unlike some, I don't faint when he gives speeches but I am excited about the change. People's attitudes are a big part of the economy and I think a lot of people are hopeful things will bottom out and start to turn around.

I don't really think the President has enough power to single handedly ruin or save the economy but they can motivate people to feel one way or the other.

I'm a bit put off by the big hoopla (and the big $$$$). I say let's get to work!!!

Matt: Granted, but then no president actually works by himself, does he? He surround himself with capable (or otherwise) folks who direct the government during his tenure. So no, no one single-handedly accomplishes or fails to accomplish anything as president. It is their presidency or their administration, if you will, that is responsible.

And if you think that and administration is not single-handedly capable of trashing out the country, well take a look around. Take a long hard close look. And then give this guy some time. It took the worthless, punk-ass, chickens.h.i.t moron of a s(h)itting president 8 years to totally disassemble the constitution and throw the country back in time about 40 years and put us to shame on the international front.

Obama cannot change this by the 21st of January, but at least we have someone who is capable and willing to try.

So, don't faint during his speeches, listen to them. You have certainly not heard from the likes of him in that position in your lifetime, and may never again.

Unfortunately the peanut butter is tainted.
At the very least we now have an articulate president. Every time I watched George, which dramatically decreased with time, I cringed at his diction and excuses. A Yale graduate? Sheesh man, old Elihu must be spinning in his grave?
Ya, he was fed bad info, and by whom? He will certainly go down in American history as one of our all time worst sitting presidents and the list contains some all time clowns and that list includes Tricky Dick Nixon so you know it’s really bad….

Congratulations on the inauguration of Barack. He certainly is being touted as the second coming. I hope he can live up to everyone's hopes and wishes. He sure does have an infectious smile, and portrays an image of confidence.

Just watching the news coverage, its really something, democracy in action, a true inspiration. It must make some governments envious to see the transition, and how everyone is enthusiastic!

Best wishes to my neighbours to the south!

I for one wish the best for Obama. Even though I did not vote for him,
it is more important that the country succeed than a particular political party or agenda.

One big thing I always am thankful for is the PEACEFUL and orderly transition of power. Lots of places don't have that and as a nation, we tend not to appreciate the wisdom of the system and the blessings we have as a nation.

Go USA!

Being a middle aged white guy, I have truly come to appreciate MLK's peaceful leadership to obtain civil rights. Kind of fitting if you ask me to celebrate MLK day and the next the inauguration of the first black president. Just my 2 cents worth.

Why is it when a President does not make a move to fight against something everyone thinks he is a lame President. When he takes a collective move to try to do something he is a war mongering putz.

Everyone is mad that we did not find WMDs.

We were spending billions a year on containing some smuck and j=his military. We tried to put an end to it and now the Prers is a fool, idiot, war mongerer, ass, dilusional, constitution ripper upper.

Come on folks you can't have it both ways.

I suppose we are idiots for not spanking the Israelites for finally trying to put an end to the thousands of missles shot into Israel. We would not want to do anything like blame the people that are behind those terrorist that voted them into power. Now that would be pretty silly, huh.

It is time we all stopped just dumping blame on one person or one party. The info the president and his merry band of men received is the same info that everyone in the congress received to get into the present wars. They all voted on it (mass majority.

Stop blaming one person or party on this economic mess. I did not see the signs that anyone in either party made any huge attempts to keep it from happening.

We have a new President. I don't care what party he is with or his religion or race or color. Hopefully between him, his cabinet, the senate and congress they bcan figure out how to fix this mess without screwing it up more.

My personal opinion is it will get even more screwed up before it gets better. Then we will have a hero President that will get all the credit (no matter who's' ideas he uses) Then all in his party can then say "see, I told you so".

I'm not a big Obama supporter. I hope he succeeds in 'bringing about change' for all our sakes. Obamas' strength is his intelligence. He has proven time and again he is smart enough to know his weaknesses and work around them.
Case in point. Obama has not been in government long enough it get squat done on his own. No matter how hard one tries or how smart one is, when it comes to getting anything done in government, it's all about connections, who you know that can get it done and is willing to do so for you. Sorry folks. I am not a dem or a repub. But, saying that I can not lay all this horrifying stuff on the George that supposedly did all of this all by himself.

The people Marc is talking about that know who to call to get things done have, yes, been involved in government. The same government that got us into all this mess. The same government that was all part of us getting into wars. The same goverment that went along with tax cuts.

Why did we, they, get into all this wonderful stuff ??????????

One, being the economy, was to stay off the economic crisis that we were getting into. The goverment officials all agreed to try to keep the economic times in the early 2000s from getting to what they are now. As far as tax cuts, let me see, oh yeah, Obama wants to do tax cuts himself.

As far as the Afgan situation, well, what would anyone have done after what happened. After 10 years and multiple billions a year of playing baby sitter to Sadam, what would you have done??? As far as the Iraq deal, what would you do now??? Would you just say, "OK. Time for everyone to leave?? I don't think so. If that is your answer, God help us.

Tearing up the constitution????

Seriously. Do you really think that is what was happening. Please folks. Some of the arguments here are outrageous. If everyone who thinks in the direction that one man could have possibly screwed us and the world up I certainly hope you all seek serious help.

What would you have done in these situations.

We now have a man in office that wants to borrow more money. Spend untold amounts of money. Enact programs that are absolutely impossible to enact.

He wants to single handedly save the United States and the World.

If you think Mr George did all those things by himself then you must think Mr Obama can do all these things by himself.

Not only is any of these things impossible to do by ones self, if you think it is possible please seek help.

Oh. The other country thing. I have been to many and I found it to be like the united states as far as how people feel. Some love us. Some hate us. Some could live with or without us. Some feel we are a wonderful nation and just don't like some of our leaders. Personaly I did not have any problems with anyone I met. Of course I did not run into some whack job terrorists (I think). The world always thinks the most powerful nations are made up of a bunch of arrogant p*****

Please, enough already. George did this. George did that. Obama is going to do this. Obama is going to do that.

Collectively I hope the new government is going to eventually fix, first, our economy. Secondly, I hope they don't screw the economy up or the world situation up anymore than it already is and fixes it along the way.

Again folks. What would you have done. Ooops, no answer. Why. Because you do not know what you would have done at any particular time in the exact same situation. You couldn't know and don't.

Guess what. Our Government (all of our governemnt. Including some of those in the camp that is in charge now) thought they were all doing the right thing. But I guess some on here think they could have individually come up with better ideas. Geeeeeeeeeees??????????????????????

I'm not a big Obama supporter.

Markus: Too bad. I agree with you on one point though. I have friends in multiple countries, have traveled extensively and subscribe online to 12 international news feeds. The world, as a whole, is ecstatic about Obama's rise to power here.

Bush is an isolationist of the worst ilk. As a result he has alienated us from the rest of the world. As the recent financial crisis shows - this is one world. If one nation falls, the others suffer.

My fiends in Britain, France, Germany, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic reported that Obama inauguration parties were being held everywhere throughout Europe.

It's a shame that the over-indulged here in this wonderful nation are not curious of concerned enough to educate themselves as to the world view of this nation and its workings. For the most part the rest of the world looks to us for guidance in the democratic realm.

Why on Earth would we disappoint them with another schmuck the likes of Bush?

Obama is no Messiah. He is no Superman. He is just our President - for not even one whole day. Give the man a chance.

I think you will be amazed . . .

Billy. Think back. The Messiah label came from those running against him, the far-right wing pundits and bloggers. It was a term meant to disparage him, an attempt to poo-poo his obvious intellect. It was never his supporters treating him like a deity.

Wow, I can almost see the tear in your eye, but answer me this, back in mid 07' during the campaign, then candidate Obama said this about invading Pakistan, one of our supposed allies YouTube - Obama Attacks Pakistan! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqyyMuDkVTw)
How would you friends in Britain, France, Germany, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic think of the US if he followed up on this promise?
Personally I like the move. We should hunt down the terrorist wherever they are, but I'm curious what you think. Also will you give him the same treatment that you gave Pres. Bush or does he get a pass because, well, you voted for him?

Can't we all just get along

As far as the people around the world hating us. Really. What planet do you folks live on. I have been all over. I did not see that. Sure there are folks that don't like us or the past President. There are also folks that love us and also look at our past President in the fact that he had to make some serious decisions on the scope of what was taking place.

Do any of you really think that you, all by yourselves, could have done any better when the entire government of the United States could not get it right???????????????????????????????????????????? Folks, the ENTIRE government. And how about the rest of the goverments of the world and their part in this economy. Yes folks. THE WORLD

Do you really feel so badly about the US governemnt. The people that were hired by our vote (whether you folks did or not the vote got them in, all of them. They are all responcible. They all had part in it. *ALL HAD PART IN IT, BOTH SIDES*. We all had part in it. Are we all Scum.

The life most of you lead over the past couple decades had part in it. Are you all scum.

Oh yeah, I would like to see any of you spend six months as President of the greatest, wealthiest , most pwerful nation on earth and I would like to see how you come out. Have you not seen what that job does to a man. Give the folks in the high offices a little bit of a break. Some one said somwhere about the amount of time off Bush or any President had in an 8 year term. Folks. The President does not get a day off in his entire term. There is no such thing as a day off as President of the United States. How would any of you like to work 365 days a year for 8 years.

Things that have been done around the world are just that. Things done. Time to move on and give each other a big hug. The world is not going anywhere.

Aaron, given our political history locally, it is hard for me to support any politician from my home state let alone home town. I'm sure many of you have been getting a good laugh out of our governor lately. By the way I pegged him as a scumbag when I ran into him a few years ago.:D
GW didn't or couldn't have done it alone, all by himself ... blah, blah, blah. Bush supporters love to use that as a defense. In reality it is no defense at all. He was the leader and any problems go back to him in the end. If you don't believe that try being a Boss for a while working for clients. You'll soon come to see how true it is.
I don't blame it all on Bush, many were involved. As any management school will teach you, 'the boss sets the tone' for the company. In this case, Cheney and all of GH Bush' exCIA spooks set the tone. We will be paying for their right wing supremacist ideals for years.
Yes the president works hard but please don't try to piss on my head about how he doesn't get a vacation day.
When people talk about making the 'RIGHT' decision. I get scared. As I have mentioned before, the problem with having to be 'Right' is that it leaves no room to be wrong. The ideal of being Right was clearly evidenced throughout the 8 year reign.
I'm half an idiot and I knew that Saddam didn't have WMD's
Afghanistan, How well did that go for the Russians and British?
Obama isn't going to solve all the problems (or any) anytime soon. This mess is going to take a while. I will gladly bash him too WHEN it is warranted.
I think part of our foreign policy problem is that often times we attempt to create democracy. I remember when Irag was rolling up, GW and the talking heads stated 'a few years', what a laugh. It has taken us 300 years to achieve the democracy we have today. Each successive generation of citizens evolving closer and closer to what we have today.

HE HAS IT RIGHT

*** GM announced yesterday that it would probably run out of money in
March. As to a bailout, we turn to a letter that appeared last week in the
Manufacturing and Technology Journal. It is from a man who seems to have
grease under his nails and a brain under his hat. Greg Knox, president of
Knox Machinery in Franklin, Ohio, explains why he is not in favor of a
bail out for Detroit.

"Politicians and Management of the Big 3 are both infected with the same
entitlement mentality that has spread like cancerous germs in UAW halls
for the last countless decades, and whose plague is now sweeping this
nation, awaiting our new President Obama, to wave his magic
wand and make all our problems go away, while at the same time allowing
our once great nation to keep 'living the dream'... Believe me folks, The
dream is over!

"This dream where we can ignore the consumer for years while management
myopically focuses on its personal rewards packages at the same time that
our factories have been filled with the worlds most overpaid, arrogant,
ignorant and laziest entitlement minded 'laborers' without paying the
price for these atrocities...this dream where you still think the masses
will line up to buy our products for ever and ever.

"Don't even think about telling me I'm wrong. Don't accuse me of not
knowing of what I speak. I have called on Ford, GM, Chrysler, TRW, Delphi,
Kelsey Hayes, American Axle and countless other automotive OEM's
throughout the Midwest during the past 30 years and what I've seen over
those years in these union shops can only be described as disgusting. Troy
Clarke, President of General Motors North America, states: 'There is
widespread sentiment throughout this country, and our government, and
especially via the news media, that the current crisis is completely the
result of bad management which it certainly is not.'

"You're right Mr. Clarke, it's not JUST management...how about the
electricians who walk around the plants like lords in feudal times, making
people wait on them for countless hours while they drag ass...so they can
come in on the weekend and make double and triple time...for a job they
easily could have done within their normal 40 hour work week. How about
the line workers who threaten newbies with all kinds of scare
tactics...for putting out too many parts on a shift...and for being too
productive (We certainly must not expose those lazy bums who have been
getting overpaid for decades for their horrific underproduction, must
we?!?)

"Do you folks really not know about this stuff?!? How about this great
sentiment abridged from Mr. Clarke's sad plea: 'over the last few years
...we have closed the quality and efficiency gaps with our competitors.'
What the hell has Detroit been doing for the last 40 years?!? Did we
really JUST wake up to the gaps in quality and efficiency between us and
them? The K car vs. the Accord? The Pinto vs. the Civic?!? Do I need to go
on? What a joke!

"We are living through the inevitable outcome of the actions of the United
States auto industry for decades. It's time to pay for your sins,
Detroit.

"I attended an economic summit last week where brilliant economist, Alan
Beaulieu, from the Institute of Trend Research, surprised the crowd when
he said he would not have given the banks a penny of 'bailout money'.
'Yes,' he said, 'this would cause short term problems,' but despite what
people like politicians and corporate magnates would have us believe, the
sun would in fact rise the next day... and the following very important
thing would happen...where there had been greedy and sloppy banks, new
efficient ones would pop up...that is how a free market system works...it
does work...if we would only let it work..."

"But for some nondescript reason we are now deciding that the rest of the
world is right and that capitalism doesn't work - that we need the
government to step in and 'save us"'...Save us my ass. Hell - we're
nationalizing...and unfortunately too many of our once fine nation's
citizens don't even have a clue that this is what is really
happening...But, they sure can tell you the stats on their favorite sports
teams...yeah - THAT'S really important, isn't it...

"Does it ever occur to ANYONE that the "competition" has been producing
vehicles, EXTREMELY PROFITABLY, for decades in this country?... How can
that be??? Let's see... Fuel efficient... Listening to customers...
Investing in the proper tooling and automation for the long haul...

"Not being too complacent or arrogant to listen to Dr. W. Edwards Deming
four decades ago when he taught that by adopting appropriate principles of
management, organizations could increase quality and simultaneously reduce
costs. Ever increased productivity through quality and intelligent
planning... Treating vendors like strategic partners, rather than like
'the enemy'... Efficient front and back offices... Non union
environment...

"Again, I could go on and on, but I really wouldn't be telling anyone
anything they really don't already know down deep in their hearts. I have
six children, so I am not unfamiliar with the concept of wanting someone
to bail you out of a mess that you have gotten yourself into - my children
do this on a weekly, if not daily basis, as I did when I was their age. I
do for them what my parents did for me (one of their greatest gifts, by
the way) - I make them stand on their own two feet and accept the
consequences of their actions and work through it. Radical concept, huh...
Am I there for them in the wings? Of course - but only until such time as
they need to be fully on their own as adults.

"I don't want to oversimplify a complex situation, but there certainly are
unmistakable parallels here between the proper role of parenting and
government. Detroit and the United States need to pay for their sins. Bad
news people - it's coming whether we like it or not. The newly elected
president really doesn't have a magic wand big enough to 'make it all go
away.' I laughed as I heard Obama 'reeling it back in' almost immediately
after the final vote count was tallied...'we really might not do it in a
year...or in four...' Where the Hell was that kind of talk when he was
RUNNING for office.

"Stop trying to put off the inevitable folks ... That house in Florida
really isn't worth $750,000... People who jump across a border really
don't deserve free health care benefits... That job driving that forklift
for the Big 3 really isn't worth $85,000 a year...

"That couple whose combined income is less than $50,000 really shouldn't
be living in that $485,000 home... Let the market correct itself folks -
it will. Yes it will be painful, but it's gonna' be painful either way,
and the bright side of my proposal is that on the other side of it all, is
a nation that appreciates what it has...and doesn't live beyond its
means...and gets back to basics...and redevelops the patriotic work ethic
that made it the greatest nation in the history of the world...and
probably turns back to God.

"Sorry - don't cut my head off, I'm just the messenger sharing with you
the 'bad news'. I hope you take it to heart.

"Gregory J. Knox, President, Knox Machinery, Inc. Franklin, Ohio"
