While inspection a air handler, I found a blue box attached to the end of the unit. It was labled UVAIRE, and was pluged into a nearby outlet. The box had a on and off switch on the bottom. There was also a wire running into the duct work, and a red light behind the grill right above the return filter. Has anyone seen this before?? and what is its purpose??

 Thanks everyone

The only thing I know about these things, which I've posted before, is don't assume the thing is killing any microorganisms just because the light is on. My understanding is that the germicidal effectiveness goes down long before the light fails.

I think you should edit that to read:

Ultraviolet light to potentially cleanse bacteria from the air.

Adding, ...

And damage any and all plastics which the ultraviolet lights strikes, including, but not limited to: plastic condensate pans; electrical wire insulation; etc.
