We've all seen bank 'repo' homes damaged by the occupants on their way out. How many have seen 'booby-trapped' homes? Here's something (see attached photo) to think about the next time your ready to throw the switch on the disposal unit...without first looking into the grinding chamber to see what's waiting inside! As if we all don't have enough to worry about...

I've purchased flashlight batteries from CopQuest. Now I guess I need a bullet-proof vest?

Glenn: Jeeeeeez, I really never imagined that!

I never think to look inside the grinding chamber before flipping the disposal switch. Insane.

I know nothing about guns and bullets, not being a REAL MAN.
What are the odds that thing is going to go off?

John: Highly probable.

Back in my crazy days, I used to throw live ammo in a fire (they pop and throw embers), and have seen someone throw live .22 rounds out of a moving car (they go off)

It looks like rimfire ammo-- I would say the round going off is probable. If it is centerfire, I would say doubtful, but still possible.

The chances of the round going off and actually causing any real harm...... unlikely.

Either way, I wouldn't want to be the one turning on that disposer

As kids we used to bang the shells with a hammer to get the gun powder out. Not once did they ever go off. You could turn on that disposer and i say nothing would happen but maybe jamb it up.

All you need is for the primer on the base of the shell to get hit just right. But it wouldn't be like the bullet was fired out of a gun. In order for the bulle to be deadly, you need the pressure that's created when the bullet is driven through a small diameter barrel. In an open chamber like the disposal, you can't get that type of pressure.

Kind of interesting that is for sure. 22 from the look of it. Find anything else around booby trapped?

.
Plugging the drains and leaving the water on is real popular around here.

Moisture Meter off the hook as High as 36 inches off the floor in the (use to be) Drywall.

That reminds me of the "wet bandits" from the movie home alone

That is crazy! Probably a criminal act.

Yes, I've had my share of repo inspections. Never could figure out why someone would take a kitchen island, or put the toilet in the middle of the room. I sure do look carefully at ALL wiring and plumbing before switching them on. Now I will add checking the disposal.
We don't get paid enough for that kind of risk!!

Be careful out there! (isn't that what they said on "Hill Street Blue"?)

Funny you say that Fritz (and Brandon for mentioning mythbusters). Ever since this thread started, I have been trying to locate an old, beat up disposer to try it out. If I ever get to it, I'll post the results...........

Only if your not dead.:D If you never post again, we'll figure out the experiment.

Brandon, If you only have 1 disposal, try the rimfire ammo last. I think it will go off but I don't think the centerfire will.

Agreed.

I'm all about calculated risks........ this one doesn't even have me worried. (plus, I won't be standing over it);)
