Fire sprinkler system

Can the main water valve be before the branch for the sprinklers? I thought the fire sprinklers had to branch before the valve to prevent the occupant from disabling the system.

yes and normally with a tamper valve that alarms when it is closed. Most are chained open with break away locks too.
