Mandatory home energy audits planned
Green Energy Act
Lee Greenberg, Canwest News Service Published: Tuesday, February 24, 2009

The Ontario government is prepared to impose a green regime that will direct how homeowners sell their property, set prices on alternative energy and cut municipalities out of decision-making where wind and solar energy projects can be located.

The sweeping legislative package known as the Green Energy Act will amend 15 statutes and the government says it will create 50,000 jobs. For more details, please see National Post. (http://www.nationalpost.com/most_popular/story.html?id=1321615)

Starting in June, the City of Austin, Tx will require that home sellers have an energy audit inspection prior to puttinn the home on the market. The house will not have to be brought up to current energy standards but the energy inspection and report must be done.

Create 50,000 jobs by taking money away from sellers. Geee, if the sellers still had that money they would be putting it back into the economy. Sounds like a new social state and distribution of wealth.

Hmm, din't we just do this :D

Sounds like a distribution of wealth and a new social state. If the home owners could keep their money the would put it back into the economy themselves.

Hmm, did't I just say that to the OP ?

It seems the North American is following the UK practice forcing the house owners for energy saving improvement. The properties marketed for sale from 14 December 2007 in England and Wales need a Home Information Pack (HIP).

The HIP must be provided by the sellers at free of charge. It contains an “Energy Performance Certificate” and an “HIP Index” of all documents related to the house (any unavailable document must declare “NO” on the index).

When the England government drafts the laws, a “Home Condition Report” was included in the Pack. However, they revised to “Home Condition Report” can be included by sellers on a voluntary basis. That means they thought the energy concerns are more importance to the house condition.
