Florida Attorney General McCollum said Thursday at least two types of fraudulent activity involving the defective drywall have been reported. Fraudsters are marketing supposed test kits, which cost thousands of dollars but are mostly ineffective, and other purported quick fixes.Cold call inspectors claiming to be experts have also been reported.

Officials said tainted drywall can be found only through visual inspection. The attorney general's news release said homeowners should ask the home builder whether the drywall is present or have an air conditioner technician conduct an inspection.
