Hello!

I am just starting the journey into home inspections and I'm at currently at 'square one'.

I'm new to the industry of home inspections but have over six years experience as a risk control consultant and I perform inspections at commercial and industrial facilities for insurance purposes, so I believe I've had exposure to a number of the skills that are crucial for a home inspector.

I realize; however, that the principles that apply to industrial facilities are very different from residential dwellings so I will be taking some training courses prior to inspecting any homes, with the intent to eventually become a Certified Home Inspector (through CAHPI).

Does anyone have any feedback as to a good 'home study' or online program (I work full time and cannot take day classes - and even night classes would be difficult to fit into my schedule).

I'm looking at potentially taking AHIT's $1,000 home study/on-line course. . . what else might be out there????

I'd appreciate any suggestions or feedback!

Cheers!

Ian

Hi, Ian. Welcome board. In Vancouver, BC, we take night classes from BC Insitute of Technology. Only two correspondence courses for BLDG 2936 - House Inspection 3 - Report Writing (http://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/bldg2936) and BLDG 1810 - BC Building Code: Housing Part 9 (http://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/bldg1810).

I see it will be important for me to pick a program offered by one of the companies recognized by CHAPI . . and the AHIT program is one of them. Hopefully the online course is recognized.

Has anyoune else had experience with CHAPI and the on-line courdes offered by their Accredited Training Providers (www.nca-anc.com - Accredited Training Providers (http://www.nca-anc.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=41))???

Thanks again!
