Still happening - today they had to break out the concert around the drain to free a 3 year old girl:

I believe pool safety is a really important point that has to be taken care of. I would surely go through these websites to check out what information they have to offer. :)

These drains are not currently required on residential pools but I put a comment on each pool inspection that informs the customer of the potential problem and recommends that they consider equipping their pools with one of these covers.
