What section of the NEC governs light fixtures in built in storage cabinets?

I think they would be the same. Globed fixture required. Almost looks like they built the kitchen around that one.:eek:

What is under that built-in cabinet?

Could it have been a closet with a closest light and someone added a bottom and doors through the wall? Just curious if that could have been a possibility as otherwise there is no reason for having a light in there, and, there is plenty reason NOT to have that light in there.

That's built into a kitchen soffit above a full height "broom closet" below.

The question is still open: what code section prohibits this arrangement?

Yep, probably was originally a "full height" broom closet which then had the ceiling lowered and the wall cut open to allow for that storage.

That would explain "why" that light was installed originally.


The question is still open: what code section prohibits this arrangement?

Thought I had answered that with my previous "None."

The codes do not address "stupid people tricks". :)
