Here is the picture. Nouse with rear entrance driveway with drive gate operator. Homowner plated a fast-growing tree near the opener so that the solar panel no longer charges the battery. He then installes a 12-volt charger on the interior wall of the garage; surface mounts the charger cord to the wall; surface mounts the charger wiring from the charger to the opener to the wall, then takes it below the garage doorjamb and direct buries it out to the opener.

My contention is that, low-voltage or not it:

(1) Should not be surface mounted to the garage wall.

(2) Should not be direct buried where it will likely be damaged.

Am I hallucinating? If not, or even if so, please quote the NEC to support your opinion.

Thanks:D

Since the electricians appear to be out drinking with the weathermen, never mind. I answered it myself. NEC 300.5(A) and 300.5(D)(1).

Aaron,

Take a look through 720 also (it's a very short Article) and its referenced Article 480 (also a very short Article).

By the way, "Nouse with ... Homowner plated ... "

What to heck is a "nouse", and if the "homowner" (whatever that is) has "plating" facilities present there is also ARTICLE 669 Electroplating to deal with. :)

In 720, there is this:
- 720.4 Conductors.
- - Conductors shall not be smaller than 12 AWG copper or equivalent. Conductors for appliance branch circuits supplying more than one appliance or appliance receptacle shall not be smaller than 10 AWG copper or equivalent.

and

- 720.9 Batteries.
- - Installations of storage batteries shall comply with 480.1 through 480.4 and 480.8 through 480.10.

Don't forget 720.11 Mechanical Execution of work ..
Neat and workman like manner .....
Cables shall be supported by the building structure in such a manner that the cable will not be damaged by normal building use.

Those dangling cables could use a little support
