Bathroom ventilation / window privacy issue

Nor quire sure what to recommend in this case:

Window above tub shower (no, I could not determine if it was tempered) is the only ventilation for the bathroom, but opening either sash provides a clear view into the shower from the units across the courtyard. (When you are actually standing there, the units directly across the courtyard are closer than they appear in that picture, which had to be taken on a diagonal due to the bathroom/shower layout.

How the do you provide privacy in this situation while still allowing sufficient ventilation?

Besides that, a well placed curtain or louvered blind should work.

Curtains are not an ideal solution in a climate where we regularly see sub-zero temperatures.

There may not be a good solution to it, but this is a real problem; at a lot of the older structural brick buildings in my area which have been converted to condos there's no mechanical ventilation the bathroom and it's either difficult to install, the condo boards don't want it installed, or both. And if the bathroom window is in the position that creates privacy problems, the difficulties are aggravated.

The result is that windows don't get used in cold weather, there's a lot of moisture in the bathroom, and all the usual attendant problems.

Michael, I agree with you completely. Unfortunately this is one of those situations where people have the ability, because the window is there and opens, to do what needs to be done.
Vinyl blinds will actually work pretty well. However another alternative is a mounted piece of frosted plexiglass mounted at the edge of the window jamb and X inches tall. Mount this at the top of the jamb, say 12" in height and the person can pull the top sash down 12" and still have privacy. The 4-6" distance between the window and the casing side of the jamb will allow for ventilation.
Putting a fan in is a one day job, for somebody good, not a big deal.
