Gas line

This place was a DIY thunder Dome. Is this gas line install acceptable?

Matthew, I can't make out where the WH flex line connects. I see the one black iron feed coming down, a black iron feed branching off to the right, a CSST feeding back up then the small flex line back to the WH valve.

My first concern is the ability of that one feed being capable of delivering the BTUs required by all these appliances. Likely overloaded.

I see one shutoff for the feed to the right. Where is the shutoff for the WH and does this CSST have a shutoff at the other end?

You can branch off to other appliances but where is the ground union to disconnect the WH without disturbing the other lines? The ground union must be downstream of a shutoff to just the WH and ditto at each other appliance.

Look carefully at the bottom of what looks like a sediment trap, zoom in on it if you can, you will see that is not a sediment trap, that is an elbow to another elbow where the water heater connector goes to.

The water heater is acting as the sediment trap for the other appliances. :eek:

Not to mention there is no shut off valve to the water heater.

Or ... how are you going to be able to remove and replace the water heater with that black iron gas line running across in front of the water heater, through the water heater's working/service space ...

After staring at that mess for about five minutes I gave up and recommended further evaluation. I thought the yellow flex gas line went to the range, but that it electric.

The problem, one problem, with recommending "further evaluation" is that the very same licensed person who installed it may come out and "re-certify" it.

I always pointed out what I say not correct, such as the missing sediment trap, and anything else you see, then call for 'REPAIRS, including, but not limited to (list what you see) and then correct any and all additional items found or created during those repairs'.

That means they are there to make repairs of at least what you found. And if they leave anything wrong, well, YOU told THEM to 'fix it too'.

There was no licensed individual installing anything in this place. Plus I agree with your recommendation, several issues you mentioned were identified but a few were impossible to figure out without ripping the wall open. Since we are on the topic of gas lines, can you have exposed flexible gas lines in garage areas.
