hey all

business is booming here--turned away a few---yeah

had a new build today and had this outlet in laundry room, near sink and a gfci outlet at sink, but outlet for washing machine left of sink was not gfci protected. shouldn't be--it was only two feet from water

thanks

I personally do not call out receptacles intended for "washer" connections to be GFCI protected. Those close or above a laundry sink I do.

If the area has adopted the 08 the receptacle for the washer would reqiure GFI protection within 6' of the outside edge of the sink. There is no exception for a simplex receptacle.

Jim,

That requirement in the 2008 NEC is the same as in the 2005 NEC, it has not been changed since it was added into the 2005 NEC.

Charlie,

If the receptacle (outlet) is within 2ft. from the rim of the sink as you mentioned, it should be GFCI protected.
