The in floor radiant system had this extra tank installed. It is labeled 'monitoring tank', with instructions to call the plumber if the pressure drops below 20 PSI. Anyone know what this is about? It's the upper tank, and the pressure was about 12 PSI.

The tubing is Entran II, if that makes a difference. We thought maybe to tell if there was a leak in the system, but it seems they have recharged the tank lots of times since it was installed. There is a log sheet with dates and what pressure the tank was charged to.

As I recall, those bladder tanks are to be installed vertically?
