Does anyone have experience with the Extech Mini Infrared Thermometer (http://www.professionalequipment.com/extech-mini-infrared-thermometer-61-ds-42500a/infrared-thermometer/)?

Fluke 63 Infrared Thermometer

-25 to 999°F, 12:1 (D:S), ±1% accuracy, laser sight, fixed emissivity (.95), hard case

Pretty much the same, maybe better specs to what you had. I have had it for a while and am happy with it

At 6:1 ratio you need to be really concerned with how close (how far away from) you are to what you are measuring.

At 6 feet away you are measuring a 1 foot diameter circle, and that is HUGE.

Ted's reference to one with 12:1 is twice as accurate, at 6 feet you are measuring a 6 inch diameter circle.

The one I use is 33:1, so at 6 feet I am measuring about a 2 inch diameter circle.

They make 50:1 ratio ones now (mine is probably about 10-15 years old), maybe even better ratios than that.

Yes but you have that never ending sticker on the side for the distance acuacey and mine only cost in the mid 2s not in the mid 7s or 8s. I would rather do a quick distance check and check or refresh my memoryy of what I may have to subtract instead of paying 2 to 3 times as much. Most of the time you are pretty close where it does not make a difference.

Ted,

I don't have a distance measuring one, too old for that, just the laser pointer for the target.

I paid $545 for mine back then.

I don't have the Extech thermometer, but I have not been very impressed with the quality of other Extech products that I do have or have handled.

I opted for the Raytek Raynger ST-20XB. It is discontinued and being replaced by Ted's Fluke 63. Same capabilities. $119 at Amazon.

By the way RB, isn't the Extech that JL is dissing made by FLIR, the high and mighty maker of all things Cracker Jack?:D
