Does anyone know what this is? I think it is some kind of alarm. It sits on top of a septic tank and has a 1/2" pipe in the tank and 120V.
Thanks
Paul

Air pump for an aerobic system.

Thanks Jim. Here is the leach field. It is made of 2 10' pieces of pvc with kerfs cut in it and just runs down the mountain. No Caps and this is the septic system. The leach line is 10 feet from the tank. Note the erosion already.

I hope they at least have a method of adding a disinfectant.

Hmmmm

Dumping sewer water down the side of a mountain............

Can you even do that with chlorine tabs killing bacteria even in the middle of no where down the side of a mountain???? At least the Chlorine tabs in the line will kill the stink and bacteria a bit but still, just dumping it down the hill

I guess, why not. They spray it through sprinklers everywhere else.

What chlorine tablets? They don't even have electric for the air pump.
Things are crazy here but cost top dollar.
Thanks

Further evidence that "pure mountain spring water" ain't so "pure" and not quite so "tasty" in many places. No wonder there is a lot of fecal matter in bottle water taken from natural springs (which is not treated water, just bottled from the springs).

You are right Jery. It amazes me how many people think bottled water has been treated. They look at you like you lied to them.

Absolutely right!

There was a report on bottled water on some of the TV stations in South Florida a number of years back about bottled "natural spring" water and "reverse osmosis" water being bottled and sold as "natural water".

EVERY SINGLE BOTTLE of "natural spring water" was so full of contaminates, with the largest percentage being fecal matter, that it would never have been allowed to be sold through water departments and piped into your homes, yet people spend mucho more money for contaminated "natural spring water" and pooh paw about it being untreated as though treatment is not necessary.

The "natural water" filtered through reverse osmosis was simply municipal water with further filtration and was the most healthy water available for drinking and cooking, but it did not have the 'natural spring water" label so no one wanted it.

Does that pump force it down the mountain faster through that hi tech leaching system?

Paul,

I bet even in Costa Rica that septic system is installed wrong. When the health officials find it the owner will face large fines and be required to install it correctly. Not having 120v to it is the lest of the problems.

It is hard because you have to weigh the important things and just try to inform the buyer what he/she not getting, that they are accustom to in the North. Vents in plumbing are non existing in 99% of the homes and they use so many traps. Outside the house the toilet has a 4" trap, sinks and showers are double trapped (underground). Then you see signs in most baths do not throw paper in the toilet. Wonder why. When I am involved with new construction it is like pulling teeth to get one vent stack installed much less 2-3. Everyday is a new learning experience or a new WOW factor.
