Orange outlets - why?

I was at the hospital with my daughter yesterday and while waiting for her to get done with her tests I noticed that there are several outlets in the waiting area and the bathroom that are orange. There are also many plain white ones too.

What is the significance of the orange outlets?

By the way my kiddo is OK and will be back on her feet today. :)

Isolated ground receptacles used to be designated with an orange face.

Isolated ground receptacles do not necessarily mean that there is emergency power from another source. There would be 2 grounding means in the wiring method, one for the ground prong, another for the conduit and boxes.

At least in my experience emergency powered devices are red or have a red trim plate.

406.2 Receptacle Rating and Type.
- (D) Isolated Ground Receptacles. Receptacles incorporating an isolated grounding conductor connection intended for the reduction of electrical noise (electromagnetic interference) as permitted in 250.146(D) shall be identified by an orange triangle located on the face of the receptacle.

Usually, though, the entire face is orange instead of just an orange triangle.

Nah, those are orange. The labels on the plates are red.

The green dot means "Hospital Grade".

Isolated grounds are the only place you are allowed to install receptacles that have the orange triangle or an orange face.
