View Full Version : Soffit Vents

This is just some information from my personal residence.
I knew the vent grills were blocked from paint and decided to replace them.
Glad I did, look at the size of the hole each and every vent had.
This is a 25+ year old house.
Just enough of a hole to let in some daylight to fool the city inspector and the job superintendent.
How much longer would it have taken to cut the right size hole?

If there is one thing that experienced home inspectors have learned its things are not always what they appear to be. But of course you already knew that.

Jim,

Are you having a slow week?

What's up with inspecting your own home?

Ever hear "The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes"

At least there is a hole of sorts behind yours.

Every other one of mine was a dummy!

Yeah, kind of slow this week, but the last several have been good.
This was actually a project that I have been working on for a couple of years and just decided to get it off of the "to do list". It's funny, I don't have any problem going up in other peoples attics when it is 100+ but if I start to sweat a little on my own home, it is time for a break and wait for a cooler day.:D

Jim,

They look good to me. ;)

I'd put those few back on and let it be.

Maybe grab a cold one and work on that tan on your slow day.

Worst day of my life was coming home from inspector school and looking at my house.

Jim MC.

Thats classic.

They should post that at every Home Inspector school.

That's the truth Rick. Once I started my HI course, I thought my house was falling down.

Jim I think that you're being a bit unfair. As inspectors we're always criticizing someone who got carried away with a saw. Now here you had someone who was trying to be conservative and not over cut. We inspectors are never happy.

Saws are like paint brushes, makes people go ape s--t.

Jim,

Now that your "warmed up" you want to come over and fix my vents in Plano?

Mine are similar ... and it's "on the list" of things to do!

Maybe next week !!

Nolan, let's see, it took me two years (with appropriate rest breaks) to finish my job, but now it's too hot to even think about starting another job... How is Feb. 30th of 2012 for you?;)

And when you get through in Plano, come on down to Ducanville and help with my wind-blown fence!!!

I hate digging out those damn wooden posts!!

Richard,

You need to call a fence company and pay them just pull out the posts for you.
Couldn't be that expensive and less strain on your old back for sure.

They have a wench set up and they'll pull them out of the ground in about 5 seconds with that thing.

They have a wench set up ...

That old wench trick huh? She must be an old weight lifter?

("winch") :)

One little accidental impulse of the wrong finger and you call me out on it. :)

"They have a wench set up and they'll pull them out of the ground in about 5 seconds with that thing."

I guess I'd rather bust my back than pay Billy-Bob $200.00 for 20 minutes work.

Just for illustration purposes,

The first picture is a fence post puller.

The second is a wench as Jerry corrected me on. I don't want anyone to confuse the two.

Rick,

Looks like a modified engine hoist with a shortened boom mounted on a hand truck.

Your kidding Jerry.

You actually looked at the fence post puller. :)

Rick,
That post puller. Harbor Freight. It's the man's version of Victoria's Secret. I really like it, but I think I prefer the model on the right. Where can I buy one? I've seen them for rent, but never to buy.
Wait a minute. Is this "post pulling" thing just an analogy that I haven't quite caught onto yet?:D

Richard Rushing

Rick,

In either case... something gets pulled. Not always the something needed either.

Rick

You posted a photo of something else too? Where?

Rick, …. You’re always placing pics on here that I can’t resist touching up somehow or another – lol. One of these days this PhotoShop hobby of mine is gonna get me in trouble …. I knows it !!! :D

And, I too was surprised Jerry actually looked at the post puller picture. :p
