I only see this type of roofing in one sub division. Place was built in the mid 90's. Any ideas average life expectancy. It is starting to curl.

I've forgotten the name of it, but it looks like that hardboard shingle stuff which failed and had a class action law suit against it.

Cemwood or something like that.

Cemwood is a cementitious and wood fiber product which failed, but it was individual shingles.

I believe Masonite Woodruf shingles is what is in the photo.

Life expectancy? About... right... NOW!
Looks like it is done to me.
I would be looking it up to find out if there is any more money left in the class action settlement.

Masonite Woodruf (http://www.masoniteclaims.com/woodruf2/index.htm)

The deadline to file a claim has passed.
Whoops!

So basically there is no life expectancy on it due to the premature failure.

That stuff looks almost like the grooved plywood panneling I took out of my basement. Sure not a lot of overlap there. When was it installed, last month?

I think it was about 12 years old, I could not get into the house to see when the place was built. Have to return today.

Matt,

Yes, we have it in one subdivision in my area as well. Pretty rare, fortunately. I know that some of it has been replaced, but I don't know if all of it has. As others have already said, recommend replacement.

that's WOODRUF. just google woodruf lawsuit and it will tell all--stop making it around 1994.

problem is you cannot replace it because it is not manufactured any more. may be able to find some shingles, but not for entire roof

new roof needed
