The attached pictures are from a Wednesday (23SEP09) inspection. The house was built in 1990. There is a high efficiency propane gas furnace in the lower level of this house that is the auxiliary heat source of a heat pump. The pipe in the first picture is the combustion air intake. Of course, the installer found a great place to put it - in the Garage, with the opening 6-8 inches from the floor. I take it the same installer ran the exhaust to the outside of the house, right at the exterior heat pump. I recommended correction by a qualified licensed HVAC contractor, which would not be the installing contractor. :)
