JA: Best would be a steel tape measure to ascertain the proper length for a new section of vent piping material. Jury-rigged would be HVAC tape that is UL listed (181A-P/181B-FX).

I would use masking tape, probably green. I don't like the blue so much.

I prefer simple black electrical tape. It sticks real good, for awhile.

Mortuary tape--you can use the rest to wrap up the bodies.

The diverse uses of duct tape, the one thing which should be in EVERY tool box ... duct tape.

Bear Attacks Piper Cub 2009
Apparently a Bear attacked this Piper Super Cub while it was parked in a remote area in Alaska. The pilot had not cleaned out the inside after a long fishing trip and the Bear smelled a fish smell. The pilot had two new tires, three cases of Duct Tape and several rolls of cellophane delivered to repair the Cub so he could fly it home for repair.
See pictures attached. Gotta love that Duct Tape!

Bear Attacks Piper Cub 2009

I wonder if that is an FAA approved repair.

Gunnar,

My first thought when that was sent to me was ... and that guy put that out on the internet, where the FAA will almost assuredly see it, and then come questioning its "airworthiness" for the ferry flight back home (there are exemptions for those limited ferry flights, but they also come with a LOT of restrictions too, not the least of which is letting the FAA know a head of time, not after-the-fact when the FAA calls you.

I can see that pilot being in real hot water over that, ... unless he claims his plane was stolen and returned in that condition ...

Jerry,

Naahh. The FAA never looks at the internet. Right?

Would you really want to put your children to bed on a cold winter night with the vent pipe being held together with tape, ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????

I wonder if that is an FAA approved repair.I thought this was in Alaska. He had to get the plane back to whatever they call the nearest town before it started snowing. I'm sure by now he's got it fixed like it never happened.:)
That reminds me. About 2 months ago, a couple enroute from up north to Seattle had to land on the West Coast highway about 10 miles west of my place when they ran out of fuel. It's a 2-lane highway through the trees. They wrecked the plane but walked away. Crazy bushpilots!

Daniel,

JA not use smileys. JA likes to keep you guessing.
