trap primer?

I've never seen this before, but I assume the copper pipe with valve is a trap primer?

The black pipe just behind the copper is the AC condensate drain.
The valve is off, which is a good thing because it ain't inserted into the larger black pipe that the condensate drain is going into so it would just discharge onto the floor.

It's funny, because around here I keep hearing that the code authorities require trap primers for this and that, mostly commercial, and yet they don't seem to care much about S traps!

Since all of the modern trap primers are automatic, I would not call a pipe and valve a trap primer. Its more of a faucet with a pipe connected to direct water somewhere.

S-traps are not enforced around here either and plumbers swear that s-traps are not actually s-traps. They just connect up sinks as the rough-ins are and if it comes out to be an s-trap too bad, it stays as is.

Agreed.

I would not refer to that as a trap primer either, as it is not.

As Bruce said, it is simply "a faucet with a pipe connected to direct water somewhere".
