I could not get a good look at this chimney due to obstructions in the area as well as height.
After reviewing the picture, it looks to be leaning a bit.
Any thoughts?

Jon,

It appears the Chimney has ( with questionable workmanship ) been rebuilt from the Roof Line Up.

I agree. It looks like they should have started rebuilding from the ground up.

But you said:

So it could be an optical illusion.

It's impossible for me to say what's going on with just this one photo. However, I enlarged the pic and it's clear that the head joints are 2-3 times normal size. Also, it's clear that the upper section has at least been repointed if not rebuilt. Unless your camera has unusual distortion, it is definitely leaning and I'd advise some work before it gets worse.

You would need a "perspective control" lens to tell by a photo what's up or soon not to be. This is where a plumb line helps.

I agree that it looks like work was done on the portion above the roof. It also looks like the two portions are not plumb with each other.

If in fact they are not, which portion is not plumb, or are both not?

I agree that referring to a qualified contractor for further examination is a good move.

I would say that it is leaning away from the overhanging branches. How do it know?
