I am new to the inspection business and work out of my home in Oceanside, CA. I am licensed as a specialty and general contractor. The remodeling and construction business is slow and to compete for available work I have had to personally perform work that is too demanding for this 55 year old body to do day after day. Last year I completed over100 hours of Continuing Education Credit through InterNACHI . During the process of this coursework and also while performing mock inspections I was surprised by how much I did not know about home systems from an inspectors point of view. Having over 30 years of building trades experience I thought it would be a no-brainer. Well, the more I know, the more I don't know, and I now have a greater respect for all those veteran inspectors out there.

This year I plan on performing both home and commercial inspections and transition from contracting to inspections on a full time basis. My son will continue to work our contracting business Legacy Contractors (http://legacycontractorsinc.com/) and I will focus growing the inspection line of business. We created Legacy Inspection (http://legacyinspection.com/) as a division of our company so I could focus on providing full time property inspection services for buyers & sellers, and also expand on my previous experience of providing inspections and consultations on light commercial and residential investment property. I also plan to add Energy Audits, Infrared Inspections, Mold Inspections, and Radon Measurement Services in the next 12 to 24 months.

I think the transition to home inspection from the building trades is very natural for me and focuses my skill set in a slightly different way. After years of remodeling homes, fixing this and building that, I know how it should be done and what problems can occur. From firsthand experience I can ascertain how serious the problem can be and what should be done about it. I think this will be a huge plus for my customers, as it allows them to benefit a great deal from my multifaceted construction background

The biggest challenge for me right now is Marketing. I am confident I can do a great job as long as I can get the work. I am currently working on the marketing plan which will include targeting direct to customer, real estate agents, and commercial property managers.

I feel the same way. I have also found that a lot of what I thought was the right way, is not. Believe me, if you post something that is incorrect, you will know :D.

Oh yea, welcome.
