On this forum, in the reply to topic or post topic window, I can't copy text. My problem is, sometimes my connection does not go through. When this happens, I loose text I typed and have to do it all over again.

Is there a way to copy or save the text prior to submitting?

Maybe I'm missing something.

Here is what I would do:

Before submitting your post click anywhere in the reply box and press ALT-A (to highlight everything in the reply box) then ALT-C to copy the highlighted text to your clipboard.

If something goes wrong when you submit your reply all you have to do is click somewhere in the reply box and press ALT-V to paste the copied text to the reply box.

If you are using a PC, Ctrl-A will select the text in the window that you are posting in and Ctrl-C will copy it. Ctrl-V will past it to a new window. Don't know about Mac.

Why not just "select all', copy and paste?
Right click menu, then choose Select all, it is quicker than dragging a highlight through all the text.
Then right click again brings up the copy paste choices.
I guess I lost use of the Alt key with Windows 3.1. :)

John,

The text in the reply window cannot be copied on this site the way you suggest. Believe me I have tried that way. Go try and see if it works for you.

Copying the text in the preview post window works. However, transitioning to that position is one of the situations in which I loose text due to connection problems.

Using the control button is a reliable solution. It's quite easy too. I've gotten used to using it for other functions also. For instance, to print something I push Ctrl-P and the print window opens. Thats easier than moving the cursor up to and selecting file and then selecting print. It sounds ridiculous but it is easier.

This reply cannot be copied, you say?:)This reply cannot be copied, you say?:)This reply cannot be copied, you say?:)This reply cannot be copied, you say?:)

I'm left-handed but I can't see the advantage of the Control key over the right-click menu.

I copied the above into a word file, then pasted it back here.

John,

I know you can copy text once a reply has been posted.

Try this. See the button to the bottom left that says "post reply"?

Click on it and it takes you to the window that you type into. BTW, I'm sure you know this already. Anyway, It's in that window that text cannot be copied with a right click.

Try it again. I just typed all this text and tried to copy it with right click before posting it. Cant do it.

OK for me, the right click did not work.
The Alt key did not work.
The Ctrl key is the one that worked for me! (PC Windows Vista)

I guess it's a local thing. I guess it's a local thing. I do not have this problem of which you speak.
Do you have high speed or dialup?

John,

See the image below. It's of the window you see when you are typing a post or a reply to a thread.

It's while in this window you cannot right click to copy. At least I cant.

You've been showing examples of copied text after the posts are submitted.

Yes that is my point, John. On my XP machine on high speed, I can indeed copy this text before posting. XP machine on high speed.

Hmmm...I have XP. By high speed do you mean cable modem? I wonder why it doesn't work for me. I've learned a way around it but it puzzles me.
