Does the discharge tube on a TPR valve have to be PVC or copper. I am not sure what type of material this was, almost like garden hose. I could not find a rating.

Not almost like... that is a garden hose (http://www.coloriteplastics.com/). No, it's not rated, and since GE water heaters are exclusive to Home Depot, the whole install is likely DIY.

Insulation on the hot pipe is too close to the draft hood.
The flue pipe doesn't look like it's secured to the draft hood.

Just a note in addition to the other information given in the posts above ... "PVC" is not allowed for that use.

I suspect you were meaning "CPVC"?

Check G E website for product manual, they allow insulated pipes down to the top of the heater

The garden hose makes it much easier to get that pesky leak outside. Nevermind that the water pressure in the home is over 100 PSI and the heater is set at High. Just a guess.

But the insulation is too close to the single wall vent.

I inspected a home the other day that folks lived in. Both gas water heaters water temp was between 165 and 170

Yes, I turned it down. Told the owners and they thought the water temp should be that high. They stated that many times they were just about scalded almost instantly .

You do understand that the "T" in TPR stands for Temperature, and is set at 150 deg.

Ahhhh.......really?

I did not write everything I got into with the owners. I just never completed what I was writing and what I went over with them. Got called away and hit send before leaving.
