yes, under the hearth and that small square at the top is the ash dump door. This thing caught on fire before but i am assuming that the lack of air supply smothered it.

This is why I always shoot some pics from the cleanout doors if I can get my camera in there.
And my guess would be that absolutely nothing will be done about it.
