Cut rafter repair

Is there a minimum length requirement to sister a rafter like this? I thought it was supposed to run the entire length of the rafter.

You are right, that is a joke, not a sister.
It is not even a distant cousin of a sister. :)

In our area they reccommend 4 feet each side of the cut and nailed and or bolted, some inspectors require gussets when tuss'. the one you are looking at is for sure not good!!
