CAHPI has announced a significant restructuring of the NCP for Canadian home inspectors.

Effective immediately,

1. All TIPR sessions will cease.

2. The NCA, which administers the NCP and is owned by CAHPI, will be absorbed and managed by a new CAHPI standing committee.

3. The provincial or regional chapters of CAHPI will maintain all national certificates until the certificates expire in 2011. When inspectors’ certificates expire in 2011, their status as national certificate holders or candidates will terminate. Action will be taken to communicate with national certificate holders and candidates to advise them of these developments, and of the options available to them for reimbursement, education, and accreditation.

4. As well, CAHPI policy regulating use of the national certificate holder designation will be amended in order to avoid confusion with the ‘Registered Home Inspector’ (RHI) and ‘Associate’ designations of the CAHPI provincial or regional bodies.

Regardless of what CAHPI has stated - that captures the document circulated, and comments offered at several OAHI meeting groups. Possibly the same was stated at other CAHPI venues.

CAHPI was entrusted to hold ownership, while it was agreed upon that the NCA was responsible to administer the program. It was intended to truly reflect the NCH's - not the RHI's. One only consider the CHIBO 2 Final Report to indicate conditions for such an arrangement.

From those on the NCA that have been fighting to achieve autonomy - you will get a different POV from the picture CAHPI paints. CAHPI provincials put up roadblocks right from the beginning. So that should have signalled the trouble ahead.

What transpired was not just wrong but also unfair. It does nothing to promote the overall betterment of the profession. This is plain and simple self-preservation and protectionism for one group under the CAHPI banner. Some may even deem it unfair business and anti-competitive by its nature.

The fact remains the NCA was never consulted on this directive; it was a CAHPI provincial initiative to protect the RHI - period!

What CAHPI has done - in my opinion has destroyed over a decade of trusting relationship with many of its supporters and stakeholders. Again my personal opinion - there's a lot more at stake here including some very challengeable and ethical self-interest by those that created this crisis.
