Does anyone not see this as a potential safety issue. I do and I am in a disagreement with the installing contractor. Now I want to make sure I am not missing something. The return for the basement is in the basement closet with this Ruud Quiet 80 upflow furnace. 5 inches from the side of the furnace. The double doors on the closet are louvered. Thanks

Return air vent openings should be located no less than 10 feet from an open combustion source (like that furnace) for safety. The installer is wrong and should be slapped.

Didn't I see this same question and photo on another thread?

Yes, I posted it before talking to the contractor.
