This pool shell was exposed on one side as viewed under the deck area. Is there anything wrong with this? I seem to remember something about pool shells without backfill as needing to be engineered for such an application.
Also:
The wire mesh and fiberglass mat were presumably used for forming, the mesh is now rusted, which doesn't concern me. But the exposed rusting rebar at the upper right hand side of the photo is used for bonding of the pool rebar and is concerning to me. I could envision expanding re-bar rusulting in a cracked shell?

Most pools are designed with the understanding that there will be a lateral support for the wall of the pool. It is rare that a pool is designed with enough steel reinforcing to withstand the water pressure without any help from the outside of the pool - I have seen a few, but the walls are quite thick and heavily reinforced.
