Low end infrared cameras

Has any used one of the low end infrared cameras with any success? I am considering buying one but I have no idea if it is worth the money. It seems that if a $2000 camera will do the job why are folks willing to spend two to 10 times more. Any opinions will be appreciated.

I think a new T400 FLIR Starts off at $ 13K I your going to get into IR jump with the best camera.

I admittedly know nothing about IR and what makes one camera better than another. But I'm with you James. If the $2,000 camera will get the job done, why spend $13K? I guess it all depends on what you really want to do with the camera.......and what you can afford.

I've been using the FLIR i7 for about two months. Good resolution, auto focus, several color options, great price. I've done alot of water intrusion surveys. Paid for the unit and training 3X. Try FLIR.:D

My question is what does the 13k camera do that a 3k camera won't do? And are these features necessary for typical home inspection use?

James, I think for $2000 the resolution of the camera at best is 80x80. the resolution for the flir i7 is 120x120 and the testo 875 1i is 160x120.The flir i7 and the testo 875 1i are both about $3000. With all the low end cameras I don`t think you are going to find one that includes a digital camera to allow you to show the digital location as well as the thermal image. I am shopping ir cameras now and I am leaning toward the testo 875 1i.

same camera....
now low end and
under $2000

technology will be the same as digital

in 12 months, there will be $99 dollar throwaway
infrareds
