Robert, here are some examples of branch circuit wiring types.

Non-Metallic sheathed (Romex)
BX cable or also known as armored cable (flexible conduit)
Knob-and-tube
Single strand copper installed in metal conduit.

Types of wiring include.
Copper, Aluminum, Copper clad aluminum, Solder dipper copper, Copper multi-strand, Aluminum multi-strand

The biggest thing (required) to be distinguished is between copper and aluminum.

If you want to go beyond that and distinguish the specific types, that's up to you.

Copper or aluminum? NM cable, conduit, or knob and tube? Properly grounded 3-prong? Reverse polarity? Properly protected with the proper OCPD? That type of thing.

Simple: Type of wiring: Copper, AL, etc. This, to me indicates type of branch circuit wiring.

Wiring methods: Romex, NM, etc. or any combination
