I never heard of a ginat sink hole. Is that where really big nats dig holes and the the earths crust falls in :p

Why is it so cone shaped. I have seen many sin k holes and it is just a collapse of the earth into maybe an old salt dome or water reservoir that dried up but I never saw such a perfect cone shaped hole. Probably a dig from a long time ago that was well under the surface that finally gave way.

Why is it so cone shaped. .

At my old house we had a gutter/yard drain pipe fail under the detached garage. It was a house built in the late 40s, early 50s where the pipe pieces were just short round concrete pipes that just butted up against one another, not really connected in any way. Apparently one shifted for some reason.

Anyway, I saw a small hole under the garage foundation and thought that it was dug by a rat or something. I started to poke at it and it opened up into a huge hole under the garage. Eventually I dug it out enough to get some support underneath, which required going in. The hole was approximately 10x4x4, but what was odd is the walls of the hole were very square and practically as flat as plywood. Talking to a client that builds golf courses, it was due to our very sandy soil, and all the sand went out the pipe.

It was just on the news that this hole is over 300' deep!

Not need to go to South America....
We have them in our own backyard.....

Recent Inspection in K of P led me to investigate
found this site of "Known Sinkholes".......

How about it Joe. I'm surprised King of Prussia as a whole hasn't just caved in on itself. When I used to work at Cingular Wireless next to the original Home Depot (now a Walmart), a sinkhole opened up in the middle of the road that runs between the KOP Mall and what is now Kildares irish bar/restaurant. It's a freaky thing to see just appear overnight.

I saw several sink holes which opened up in Gainesville, Florida during my 20 years there, some of which swallowed several cars. Two opened up during the middle of the day and the cars were just swallowed up by the hole, good thing no one was in the cars at the time.

Here is a large and deep sink hole from Gainesville which is over 100 years old, 500 feet across, over 120 feet deep:
