All of the other pumps terminated at the bottom of the tank, and pushed the water back into the valve at the bottom of the tank that would be used to drain the tank.

This one pushed back into the fill tub at the top of the tank. I can't think of why it wouldn't work, and it was in fact working when I checked the farthest bathroom. Any reason why they are usually piped to the drain opening?

A few. One being that gas fired storage type DWHs heat from below. Cold water sinks, and why such tanks deliver the cold water via the inlet and dip tube to the bottom of the tank, to be heated. Warm water then rises and is tapped off the outlet from the top. Recirc pumps placed thus PULL a return not PUSH, pumps usually needed where a gravity recirculation system not practical.

Thats a hacked constillation of unsupported plumbing. Back syphoning, cross-over previously heated to potable cold, no manifold, a mess.

Vent connection is WRONG. Should be 12" or so straight and sized correctly from draft hood before any offset. Transition from offset/elbow to b-vent looks questionable.

Understood, but we're talking a difference of a few inches, since the incoming water from the pump is going into the tank via the dip tube instead of into the tank via the drain valve, unless I'm missing something.
