Does a low voltage (12VAC) recessed luminaire installed above the shower/ bathtub require GFCI protection?

Hello Joe,
12 volt or 120 volt does not require GFCI protection.
Sincerely,
Corey

Thanks for the replies.
I replaced the 120V recessed can above my shower with a 12V 50 watt recessed can. I hooked up the primary leads (120V) of the transformer to the existing switched wires which get its power from the load side of a GFCI outlet. It works fine but I was just curious if it was a code requirement.
