Is this assembly incorrect. See it like this all the time. Wood fireplace with gas igniter.

Matt, I assume you're talking about the way those sections are sleeved together above the damper door and the potential for heat and combustion gases to exit the flue prematurely. It appears to be an issue to me as well. Rainwater downspouts installed in a similar fashion will leak. I see no difference here.

Mathew,

What you are looking at is a correct installation.

Most factory built fireplaces have a beam rolled into the starter collar, which you don't see here because generally, the male crimped end on elbows extends down over this bead. Unless you can show/ prove damage or unlisted products then there is nothing to call out. Just be careful with your assertions--it within the limits of the listing. Does that mean you shouldn't call out things on listed products you feel are inherently unsafe? No, but you have a duty to learn the product before passing judgement. What you are discussing here is addressed in Dale Feb's F.I.R.E. course--understanding the product.

Good thing you got a 3rd and 4th opinion too as I was wrong with my snap judgement. Whoops!

Is that a moisture stain on the flue beneath the damper door in the first pic?
