Age and size of unit

First of all I will admit that HVAC is the system I know the least about. That said I need help with the age of this unit and I have no clue where to start. I am guessing this is a 3 ton unit based on skimming the HVAC threads here.

This is a York unit.

Need a SN to decode mfg date for a york, etc.can't see it in the shadows.

Is that Serial Number FL M ...? 2003?

I just never understood the ignorance of manufacturers coding the age of systems.

Why go to a convoluted system like creating charts to figure or decode the age.

How about a big freaking stamp with a manufactured date on it.

Look at the RUDD water heater below. How much more simple could it be.

I'm with you on this Ted. The letter codes make no sense. Rudd units are very straightforward. I don't know why manufacturers insist on making it so difficult.

At least Weil McClain has a CP Lookup Number page on their website where you can type in the CP# to get the age of their boilers. But that too is entirely avoidable.

IIRC its three letters (plant, month, year) followed by six digits for pre 04 units.

Serial # I see is (S)NFLM057215 so it would go by "L", correct?

Because I thought the information needed was in all of the other number/codes on the label, which you couldn't read because of the flash, but now I know.

HG, you probably know this, but when you open a picture, you can click on the open picture and enlarge it one step (zoom). :)

Actually you can hold the control button down and and press the plus key as many times as you wish to enlarge the picture

For whatever reason that doesn't work for me.:confused:
Might be something to do with my local settings or forum preference settings. :( Often when I first post despite what was composed, all the formatting disappears (if I forget to "preview" first, I miss this). I think I know I have some sort of a problem/conflict/debug issue with the first script that runs everytime a page is first or re-navigated here on the forum.

I d/l'd and blew up, just couldn't make out what was obscured by the deep shadow, and not enough of the bottom of the characters to determine what they were. This is why I was so impressed with F.Z.'s determination! Perhaps I should have played around with resolution or screen settings, it might not have helped me - aging eyes and all. My photo-shop type skills are very limited.

Obviously the second picture posted shows the Serial Number clearly.
