it was just kind of a general question to start what i thought would be an interesting thread, what we're looking at are the supports looking under the house from the basement

The wood members 'may' be sufficiently sized. The real problem is attachment or lack thereof. The current support method does not provide any structural integrity in case of lateral movement. If the load/house shifts for any reason, posts may shift, no longer properly support the joists or beam and then down it all comes. I would suggest providing proper structural repairs by a real carpenter, not someone who has watched a few TV shows.
