I was doing a pre-listing inspection when I came across a roof with 2 straps coming out from under the shingles. I checked around the neighborhood & saw several other homes with the same things. These houses were built 2008 on. I asked the homeowner what they were there for & he said to pull yourself up onto to the roof.

They are nylon straps so roofers can tie off their safety harness. The strap is most certainly tied off around a roof truss where the seams of the roof decking meet. See it quite a bit up here in Ontario.

However I have not seen them at the eaves as in your picture. They are always up near the peak of the roof.

The ones at the eaves are likely for the benefit of anyone working on the wall after the roof is on. The siding installers would likely be the last so they could have cut them off.
