View Full Version : Great find at Home Depot

I just had to share this. Last week I was walking into Home Depot and notice a weed eater sticking out of the trash can. I knew immediately what had happened. Just to be sure, I asked the girl at the front desk.
She said that a customer had the weed eater for a little over 30 days and they have a 30 day return policy. Enough said, I asked if I could salvage it.
I didn't get a chance to look at it until yesterday. A mud dauber (or what ever you call it) had built a little mud nest in the muffler.
Cleaned it out, poured a little gas in it and it started on the 2nd pull. What a deal.
If only this guy would have the same problem with his "0" radius riding mower or something.
I kinda feel guilty but the guy threw it in the trash, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Kevin,

I've had my chain saw for over 12 years....
Recently, I had a lightening strike a very large Bradford Pear tree in my front yard. The tree split right down the middle and luckily fell to the street side.

Well, It had been a few years since I last used my chain saw and I figured I'd have to clean'er up and that would do it--- Naaaaaaa. She was looking for that untouched forest in the sky....

Anyway, this gave me the opportunity to run down to the Lowes't place down the road to look for another one. I picked out a Poulan 20" 'er and felt like Paul Freaking Bunyon ready to go to work. Having to basically assembly the freaking thing, I finally got er up and running. The thing worked like a champ, making short work out of a full yard or debris (a full half a tree that was 40' high).

I had every thing cut to where It could be stacked pretty neat for the shreader and I noticed that I had left several of the limbs a bit too long on one side. Now, everything is done (complete) and all I have to do is cut this one last section in to two...

I start that sucker up and get 9/10th's thru the thickness when the chainsaw dies. I have but less than an inch to saw. I then try to start that sucker with one more pull when the pull cord and re-coil spring jumps off track--- the pull cord is now fully extended and will not recoil.

Now, I just bought this sucker 3 hours before hand and now it's down. Looking at what was left to cut, I jumped down on it with my body weight-- it broke.

I then took the chainsay back to the Lowes't place around and got a full credit on my card. I was out nothing.

Worked out pretty well...

Rich

2 years ago, I went to the local HomeWreckers store to buy a paint sprayer. Not willing to shell out $180.00 for one, I bought a cheaper one. On the way home, just by chance, I stopped at the Habitat Re Store. Lo and behold, there was the more expensive model sprayer, priced at $5.00. Label said parts only, guy at the desk said it was probably just clogged. I bought it, took it home, took it apart and sure enough, it was clogged. it even came with the part needed to make it work.
This sprayer was bought and returned to Home Depot and then sent to Habitat.
My gain, Home Depot's loss!

Habitat for Humanity is a wold-wide organisation, building homes for disadvantaged peoples. To fund part of their work, they have opened up retail outlets across North America. These stores, called ReStore take donations of un wanted or un needed construction material and other things new and used. When something is returned to Home Depot, at least here in Canada, rather than ship it back to the manufacturer, it gets sent to a central warehouse and then given to Habitat by the truckload. Each store manager drives to toronto and piocks up goos for sale in their store.
building of these homes is done all by volunteers, with donated labor and with materials either bought from donations or donated directly.
Hope this Helps

Weed eater update: the trashed weed eater works great, but it has that auto feed thing so you don't have to tap it on the sidewalk to expand the line.
I don't know if I really like that feature, sure glad that other guy bought it.
But, I sure won't be throwing it away, it'll make a great stand by if something happens to my other one.

Which reminds me, I can't believe I forgot to mention this. I was helping a friend clean out a shed that he was going to tear down. He said everything goes to the dump. I asked, what about these two weed eaters? He said they both go, the newest one was never used because it wouldn't start. I tossed the old one and took the new one home. I dumped the poorly mixed gas and added my own, that fixed it. I have been using it for about 3 years now.
At this rate I may never purchase a weed eater again.
