Gambrel roof - gutters?

I always recommend gutters for roofs where there are none. I haven't inspected a house yet with a gambrel style roof, but I saw one today (with a "got a wet basement?" truck out front) and it made me wonder: can you put gutters on gambrel roofs? are they effective?

We typically put them on the facia just below the roof :D, but seriously any water that is moved away from the foundation is a good thing so I think gutters on a gambrel roof is better than no gutters.
