Can anyone tell me - Does the factory applied G90 finish on a standard Simpson joist hanger comply with the current building code requirement that fasteners in contact with preservative treated wood meet the ASTM B695 Class 55 minimum standard?

Thanks,

Peter

Check the Simpson Strong-tie site.
This technical bulletin from them http://www.strongtie.com/ftp/bulletins/T-PTWOOD08-R.pdf suggests the use of G90 is not recommended with many preservatives, especially in any conditions that include moisture (i.e. not inside).

Peter,

Probably not. I believe that the "Z-Max" coating is, but am not completely sure. The local Simpson Rep is Mike Wright.

By the way, we have a CREIA meeting coming up in Cotati this Wednesday, 10/6 at 6:00 and Mike just happens to be the scheduled speaker. He will be talking about seismic retrofitting of existing buildings. But, I am sure he will be able to answer your question.

Maybe you would like to come? If so, shoot me an email and I will give you the specific information.

Are you a local home inspector? I know many of the local inspectors and your name is not one that I recognize.
